BBC Radio Interview with Gina Battye and Stephanie Hirst
Topic: Strictly Come Dancing’s First Same-Sex Couple
Nicola Adam’s has been announced as the 1st same-sex COMPETING couple on Strictly Come Dancing.
There is a whole debate going on today about same-sex dance partners. And I was asked by the BBC why this announcement should be such a big deal.
This IS fabulous news for the LGBT+ community.
Nicola also represents people of colour AND women as lead dancers – challenging gender roles.
You may (or may not) have noticed that LGBT+ people of colour are practically none existent in the media.
I’ve said it a 100 times… The media has a big role to play in normalising LGBT+ AND race. To see a female LGBT+ person of colour on Strictly is fantastic.
This is a great leap forward – not just for the LGBT+ community but also for people of colour and women.
